Valentine's Day Love Songs & Slow Jams Party

Image
This Valentine's Day we are teaming up with some of our favorite djs who also happen to be female for another mixed doubles edition of I Love Vinyl.  DJ Reborn (in the pocket),  The Duchess (4 on the floor),  Zephyr Ann (ttl),  Yuki (shakers) &  Stef Nava.  Strictly love songs and slow jams. That includes jaded, heartbreak, and anti-love songs too. Give us your happy couples, your happily single, your broken hearts yearning to slow dance with friends. And let us love you down.

New Year's Eve

Image
This is our first New Year's Eve party! Yup. Pretty special. It's at our old digs, TBA Brooklyn (395 Wythe Ave. on the corner of South 6th St. in Williamsburg). We're gonna convert TBA back into a real deal nightclub, the way it used to be, with a full-on dancefloor, music as loud as we wanna, and partying 'til the cops come knocking (which they won't, because we've taken care of that too, but it just sounded good). We also decided to buck the trend of overinflated (we might blow up, but we won't go pop...) NYE party prices and make this a nice price for everyone. So it's only $20 to buy tickets in advance, $25 if you prefer to just RSVP , or just $30 at the door. Complimentary midnight champagne toast included. Can't wait to ring it in with you!

I Love Vinyl Radio, Episode 16 with Carol C of Si*Sé

Brand new ILV Radio show up with special guest  Carol C of Si*Sé .  Brand new to you, at least.  We recorded this one back in November of 2013, so some of the stuff we are talking about makes no sense.  Cut us a little slack while we catch up to present.  We're sure you'll figure it all out.  In this show, topics discussed include (not surprisingly, perhaps): upcoming events that took place in the past, how ladies are made, Oran "Juice" Jones monologues, the303 at Louie & Chan (which is open, which you should already know if you have been paying attention... see Cousin Cousin post ), Detroit royalty, the Giant Step party in the 90s, playing the spoons, and of course, line dancing to Kraftwerk. OP! x Afrika Bambaataa

Image
Our very own OP!, alongside Cosmo Baker, opens for the "Master of Records" himself, Afrika Bambaataa at Le Poisson Rouge this Saturday Jan 4, courtesy of Giant Step . All-vinyl set by OP! Bam recently donated his 40,000+ record collection to the Hip Hop Collection at the Cornell University Library so your guess is as good as ours as to what media he will be playing on. But we can't help hoping he's been making good use of his Cornell library card...

DJ Scribe x Justin Strauss x the303

Image
Scribe and Justin Strauss are cousins. Together they are Cousin Cousin (pr. Koo-'zan Koo-'zan). It's french for Cousin Cousin. Oui oui. Cousin Cousin is a brand new party starting this Friday at a brand new venue called the303 at Louie & Chan , in Chinatown. It's exactly the kind of place that we love. Small, dark, great sound system, and great people. Disco, House, and all that good stuff. See you there. You can follow Cousin Cousin on Tumbler , Facebook , Twitter , Instagram , Mixcloud , and Soundcloud at lecousincousin. Merci.

More Shiny Happy People, Oberlin Edition

Shiny Happy People, Oberlin Edition

We had an amazing time at Oberlin College in Ohio, where we delivered a series of workshops and guest lectures over the course of a weekend, culminating in a signature all-vinyl dance party featuring special guest DJ Spinna. The talented photographer and videographer Nabil Rahman came along for the ride to document the adventure. A video is forthcoming. In between shooting our every move, he managed to snap these beauties (the pictures, of course!).

Brand new ILV Radio show up with special guest Steve "Steinski" Stein . It was an honor and a lot of fun.
