I Love Vinyl Radio, Episode 16 with Carol C of Si*Sé

Brand new ILV Radio show up with special guest  Carol C of Si*Sé .  Brand new to you, at least.  We recorded this one back in November of 2013, so some of the stuff we are talking about makes no sense.  Cut us a little slack while we catch up to present.  We're sure you'll figure it all out.  In this show, topics discussed include (not surprisingly, perhaps): upcoming events that took place in the past, how ladies are made, Oran "Juice" Jones monologues, the303 at Louie & Chan (which is open, which you should already know if you have been paying attention... see Cousin Cousin post ), Detroit royalty, the Giant Step party in the 90s, playing the spoons, and of course, line dancing to Kraftwerk. Listen above and follow along in words and pictures below.  You can always listen to all the latest and past episodes on our  Radio  page, or on  Mixcloud . DJ Scribe x Justin Strauss x the303

Scribe and Justin Strauss are cousins. Together they are Cousin Cousin (pr. Koo-'zan Koo-'zan). It's french for Cousin Cousin. Oui oui. Cousin Cousin is a brand new party starting this Friday at a brand new venue called the303 at Louie & Chan , in Chinatown. It's exactly the kind of place that we love. Small, dark, great sound system, and great people. Disco, House, and all that good stuff. See you there. You can follow Cousin Cousin on Tumbler , Facebook , Twitter , Instagram , Mixcloud , and Soundcloud at lecousincousin. Merci.

More Shiny Happy People, Oberlin Edition

More pictures from our weekend at Oberlin. Here you can catch a glimpse of The Twilite Tone and Ge-ology's Music Production Workshop, OP!'s Vinyl DJ Workshop, and our radio show at WOBC. These were taken by our own Jon Oliver.

Shiny Happy People, Oberlin Edition

We had an amazing time at Oberlin College in Ohio, where we delivered a series of workshops and guest lectures over the course of a weekend, culminating in a signature all-vinyl dance party featuring special guest DJ Spinna. The talented photographer and videographer Nabil Rahman came along for the ride to document the adventure. A video is forthcoming. In between shooting our every move, he managed to snap these beauties (the pictures, of course!).

I Love Vinyl Radio, Episode 12 with Steve "Steinski" Stein

Brand new ILV Radio show up with special guest Steve "Steinski" Stein . It was an honor and a lot of fun. Some really incredible tunes got played (many of which had Arabic names in their titles, coincidentally) and we touched on such equally poignant topics as the Mummers, George Clinton dis records, meeting Afrika Bambaataa, Flying Saucer records, collecting phonebooks, lending records to Cut Chemist, uncredited Sun Ra appearances, and the birth of sample clearance. Listen above and follow along in words and pictures below. You can always listen to all the latest and past episodes on our Radio page, or on Mixcloud . I Love Vinyl Radio, Episode 11 with Duane Harriott

Brand new ILV Radio show up with special guest Duane Harriot ( WMFU / Bim Marx ). The music and the conversation were far reaching, to say the least. Scenes from LP48

Brooklyn Museum x I Love Vinyl

Image
This is a picture of the cover of what is considered to be the very first "LP" (long playing) record, as they came to be known, introduced in June of 1948. To celebrate the 65th anniversary of the format, the Brooklyn Museum , in conjunction with I Love Vinyl, is throwing a massive all-vinyl dance party on Thursday June 20 from 7-10pm in the Glass Pavilion. We call it LP48. Sound Liberation Front will provide their incredible "Tower Of Sound" custom-built high-fidelity sound system. The event is all-ages, and FREE (suggested donation). Get there early if you want to get in. As the flyer says, there will also be a Mini Record Fair, with vendors curated by I Love Vinyl, including Turntable Lab , Brooklyn Bowl 's Collect-I-Bowl , and Natasha Diggs ( Mobile Mondays ) representing Brooklyn Flea . Promotional support generously provided by our friends and vinyl community leaders old and new,  Wax Poetics , Dust & Grooves , Vnylst , and Vinylfy .
